Rahu (North Node)
Rahu is the north lunar node — not a body but a point, the severed head of the eclipse serpent. It signifies desire, obsession, ambition and the unconventional: the hunger that drives a soul toward what it has not yet mastered.

What Rahu signifies
Rahu is one of the two chhaya grahas (shadow planets) — the point where the Moon crosses north over the Sun's path, where eclipses are born. It has no body and no sign of its own, and it works by amplifying and obsessing. It signifies worldly desire, ambition, foreign lands and ideas, technology and illusion, and the sudden, unconventional rise. Where Rahu sits is where you are insatiable — and where growth is most dramatic.
Rahu, Kaal Sarpa and Grahan
The Rahu-Ketu axis defines two of the chart's most talked-about patterns. When every planet is hemmed on one side of it, the chart carries Kaal Sarpa Dosha; when a luminary sits with Rahu, it forms Grahan Dosha; Jupiter with Rahu forms Guru Chandal. Rahu rewards conscious effort and undoes those who chase its cravings blindly.
Traditional remedies
Rahu is propitiated through the Rahu beeja mantra and the Maha Mrityunjaya, worship of Durga, honouring outsiders and the marginalised, and — on advice — hessonite. The deeper remedy is awareness: naming the obsession, and letting Rahu's hunger serve a real aim rather than run the life.
Common questions
What does Rahu represent in Vedic astrology?
Desire, ambition, obsession, foreign and unconventional things, and dramatic worldly rise. It is the north lunar node — a shadow point, not a physical planet.
Is Rahu good or bad?
Both, depending on how it is engaged. Rahu concentrates desire and can bring great success or great excess; it rewards conscious, purposeful effort and punishes blind craving.
